Greenhouse Gas & Carbon Offsets

Vaicon conducted a life cycle analysis and economic modeling and guided a Biomass Feedstock Power Plant in capital investment decisions.  Our CDM professionals created a project design document to construct and implement carbon offsetting systems to lower green house gas emissions for GHG emission reduction certificates.  The sale of carbon credits in open markets created a new revenue stream offsetting the overall plant operation costs by 10%.   Vaicon’s energy specialists go beyond basic energy services to address energy efficiency in terms of the processes and process-related systems that are specific to each customer’s industrial operations.

ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY CONSULTING

Practice Areas

Energy

Vaicon assisted a Central Florida publishing company in the reduction of utility costs and carbon footprint.  Vaicon assessed this 74,000 square feet facility following techniques outlined by the Department of Energy.  Vaicon quantified and validated energy usage information and identified energy efficiency measures including improvements to the indoor air quality.  Implementing recommended corrective measures resulted in 20% reduction in utility costs and saved over $17,000 per year.

Litigation Support

Vaicon provided litigation support services for a Lake County client in support of damages for a claim related to accidental discharge of chlorinated solvents in the subsurface.   The defendant failed to identify an onsite environmental concern during environmental due diligence which resulted in over $1M in cleanup costs for the client.

YOUR SUCCESS IS OUR PASSION

Utilities & Hydrogeology

Vaicon provided design, permitting and construction management services for a Wastewater Treatment Plant located in West Florida.  Vaicon coordinated efforts to select a new ultraviolet disinfection technology to replace the chlorine gas system. Our staff conducted transmissivity testing and identified suitable size thereby optimizing the cost of the proposed UV system.  Once the expansion is completed, the facility will serve as a model for high quality disinfection technology while minimizing disinfection by-product issues associated with gaseous chlorine use.

Site Assessments & Remediation

A former fuel storage and distribution facility in Duval County, Florida registered a significant release of gasoline and diesel fuel necessitating assessment and remediation of soil and groundwater. As per Rule 62-770 FAC, Vaicon assessed the horizontal and vertical extent of subsurface impacts.  A detained Remedial Action Plan was developed to strategically treat contaminant constituents by using a combination of air sparge/vapor recovery and steam injection techniques. Vaicon provided turn-key services which included design, installation and operation of remediation system.  The site cleanup target levels were achieved 15 months prior to established timelines and the real property owner was able to redevelop the site into a shopping complex.

Environmental Due Diligence

A multi-national transportation firm in Central Florida had several environmental challenges.  Vaicon managed environmental due diligence, site investigation and remediation aspects of this 9 acre site.  Vaicon prepared and submitted an Interim Source Removal Design Report and implemented field activities associated with site dewatering and removal of approximately 2,450 tons of contaminant impacted soil.  Vaicon conducted the groundwater contaminant transport modeling and implemented aggressive corrective actions to reduce onsite subsurface contaminants to below Groundwater Cleanup Target Levels established by the State.
